What do BSL combination filters do?
When it comes to gas mixing, it’s essential to ensure the purity and reliability of your gases, and that’s where our range of coalescing, adsorbing and combination filters come in. These filters play a critical role in maintaining the quality of gas mixtures by performing several key functions. They effectively remove solid particles like dust and contaminants from the gas stream, safeguarding sensitive equipment and preventing interference with accurate gas flow measurements.
Combination filters are also highly effective in eliminating moisture, which can cause condensation and corrosion within gas lines and components, thereby ensuring consistent gas quality and prolonging equipment lifespan. This purification process is particularly crucial in applications requiring precise gas standards. By protecting equipment and ensuring gas purity, these filters contribute to operational efficiency and compliance with stringent regulatory standards in industries where gas quality is paramount.
Our combination filters operate through a dual-stage process designed to purify gases by removing both particulates and contaminants. The coalescing stage utilises a series of filter elements that are engineered to capture and merge fine aerosol particles suspended in the gas stream. These elements are typically made of materials like glass fibres or synthetic media with specific pore sizes calibrated to trap particles down to submicron levels.
Once the gas passes through the coalescing stage and most particulates are removed, it enters the adsorbing stage. Here, the filter contains that attract and retain gas-phase contaminants like odours, hydrocarbons and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The adsorbent materials have high surface areas and specific chemical properties that enable them to effectively trap molecules from the gas stream as it flows through.
The combination of these two stages ensures comprehensive purification of the gas, making it suitable for applications where gas cleanliness is critical.
